1996. Novokuznetsk, Siberia.

The Soviet Union is gone. The buildings remain—gray, cracked, full of echoes. You arrive with a suitcase and very little money.

The housing manager offers you a deal: a small apartment on floor 9. Rent-free. The catch? You must clean up the remains left by the previous tenants

"Previous tenants left a mess," you said. "Nothing a mop can't fix."

You take the deal. You have nowhere else to go.
